Congratulations on your pregnancy! Soon your family will grow by ten more toes and your world will be flipped upside down.
So before that new little bundle arrives, be sure to capture this special milestone with a maternity photo shoot.
Have you seen photos of that gorgeous glowing light at sunset reflecting off mama’s hair and can you picture the warm breeze blowing through the fields? This is what I love most about summer maternity photo sessions! Capturing these splendid moments is 100% worth it and inside this post, I’ll be telling you all the details you need to know in order to plan your summer maternity photo session!
Hire A Professional
Invest in an experienced and professional photographer to capture your milestone. Make sure you thoroughly review their portfolio and ask questions. Be sure to tell your photographer exactly what you are envisioning for your maternity photo shoot. You want to be sure you love the style of portraits that your photographer can produce so it’s absolutely essential to hire someone you mesh well with.
Select Your Date
Since every mama shows differently, it’s important to select a date that you’re comfortable with. You want your belly to be showing beautifully in your gorgeous dress and you also want to be able to move around during your session with ease. I typically suggest you schedule your maternity photos to be taken between weeks 28-36 of your pregnancy.
Wardrobe
Ask your photographer if they have suggestions for your wardrobe or if they have dresses available for use during your maternity photo session. Blue Sugar Photography has over 50 handmade designer gowns available in our client closet for use during your maternity sessions. You can also order your own gown from vendors such as Sew Trendy Accessories, Etsy, Belly Baby Wear or Mii-Estilo. Location and Timing
You’ll want to select a location that fits the look you want to achieve. For the best lighting, your photographer will likely be shooting your maternity photo shoot early in the morning or about an hour before sunset to get that beautiful glowing light. But don’t shy away from mid-day photo sessions either – not all photographers can pull it off but shooting in full sun can be just as stunning!
Undergarments
I cannot stress enough that undergarments are very important. You don’t want them to be visible in your maternity portraits so be sure to bring along a nude bra and panties for your session. A strapless bra with great support is best for versatility with outfit changes.
Hair and Makeup
Most photographers do not include hair and makeup services with their maternity photo sessions but you’ll definitely want to come to your photo shoot hair and makeup ready. Bring along extra lip gloss and hair spray for touch-ups.
